Travis Kelce Faces Lawsuit Over Restaurant Name Amid NFL Career Decisions

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have become one of the greatest offensive duos in NFL history, but the 2025 NFL season was one to forget for the Kansas City Chiefs stars. Finishing the year with a 6-11 record, the Chiefs missed out on the playoffs for the first time since Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback.

Kelce has completed his 13th season in Kansas City, earning his 11th Pro Bowl selection after recording 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns. Now, the former Cincinnati Bearcats tight end must decide whether to retire or return for a 14th season. Mahomes, on the other hand, was unable to finish the 2025 campaign after suffering a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

At the start of the 2025 season, Kelce and Mahomes also joined forces with Noble 33 for an off-field venture, officially opening their Kansas City steakhouse, 1587 Prime. The name combines the jersey numbers of the two Chiefs stars, with Mahomes wearing No. 15 and Kelce donning No. 87. The restaurant features premium steaks, craft cocktails and a high-end dining experience.

However, on Friday, ESPN’s Michael Rothstein reported that a sneaker company called 1587 Sneakers is suing Mahomes, Kelce and Noble 33 for trademark infringement, centering the dispute on the numbers used in 1587 Prime. The shoe company claims it began using “1587” first, even though it did not file a trademark application until October, and alleges that consumers are confused about a possible affiliation.
